What that contractor doesn't know or doesn't care is that they are hurting the customer with the low prices that they are offering. The reason this is so, is that when a contractor gives too low of an estimate, it causes the painter to run out of money sooner and at that point corners will begin to be cut, causing the home to not have the full attention that the customer should receive. Giving the customer the correct bid amount will make things easier for you and the customer to get the project done the way it ways intended to be done. Another good tip is to try real paint samples before settling on a color. You can usually get a quart of paint from any paint store to try, but you can also get sample size bottles of paint and they're way cheaper: you can usually get 4 or 5 paint color samples for the price of a quart of paint. A good place to order samples is http://stores.colorcheckinc.com/ They have all the Benjamin Moore colors in sample size bottles. Their website has color selection advice too.
