The gurgling does not always happen, but it has occurred enough times on my inspections to cause me to feel that leaving this open helps.

I didn’t know why the air was rushing out of the vent pipe close to the unit, connected to the main drain line that connects with our bathroom sink. Water had been coming out of the vent from the exterior overhang area, so I knew there was a clog. I used a water hose and flushed out a lot of mineral deposits from the main line and also gave the backup line a few minutes of water from the nozzle, just in case. I think the A/C unit is working properly now. Lots of mineral deposits were also left inside the bathroom sink when I ran that hose. I protected the work area with a giant pan and took some towels to the attic, but the nozzle fit perfectly into the holes, so it was a clean procedure. Through your tips, I’ve learned that I should not try to cover the vent where air rushes out and where I can pour bleach into the main line. I saw another site that showed a cap, and the woman demonstrating what to do with bleach took that cap off the PVC vertical pipe and then poured bleach and recapped the pipe. I believe you advised keeping that vent open for air flow, correct? Thank you again!

Wish you were in San Antonio, as we might replace our house in the coming years. Again, great job.
